Au Pair in Germany

For many, Germany was the first experience in the Au Pair program. It was the first country to accept Ukrainian Au Pairs back in the 90s. A large, economically developed, strong country with rich culture and traditions. This is great starting point to dip into the Au Pair program for the prospects of getting higher education in this country. Among other things, Germany has a significantly developed tradition of inviting Au Pairs; many families do it, and therefore it is easy and rather fast to be placed in this country for those who meet the program's requirements.

Program requirements:

  • Age from 18 to 27 years (the registration is open for candidates younger than 26)
  • Speak the German language at a sufficient level. The knowledge of the language is checked when applying for a visa at the German Embassy. The German embassies in most of the countries demand a certificate as proof of their knowledge of A1 German at least. (The certificate only from the institutes of the ALTE group is accepted as sufficient proof of language knowledge.)
  • Love for children, sociability, honesty, punctuality, and responsibility
  • A driver's license and driving experience is welcome but not a prerequisite for participating in the German program

Program terms & conditions:

  • The duration of the program is 12 months.
  • The candidate is expected to help with childcare and light housework 30 hours per week.
  • Live-in stay (the host family provides a separate room), board, and lodging.
  • At least 1 day off per week.
  • 4 weeks of paid vacation per year
  • Compulsory insurance (paid by the host family)
  • German language courses, for which the family provides a mandatory 50 euros per month, and a unique opportunity to learn a foreign language by immersing yourself in the language environment.
  • Pocket money is 280 euros per month
